Hog Wild for a Better Barn

Hog Wild

The South Dakota State Fair Foundation is excited to announce the launch of the “Hog Wild for a Better Barn” fundraising campaign, a major initiative to purchase 450 new hog pens for the Swine Barn at the South Dakota State Fairgrounds. The total fundraising goal for the project is $240,000.

The Swine Barn serves as a central home for 4-H, FFA, and Open Class exhibitors, and updated pens will greatly improve safety, comfort, and usability for both exhibitors and animals.

The campaign is boosted by generous support from industry partners. The South Dakota Pork Producers have offered a $30,000 matching challenge for 4-H exhibitors, and the South Dakota State Fair Foundation has added an additional $30,000 matching challenge for Open Class exhibitors. Together, these matching funds provide $60,000 in combined matching opportunities, doubling the impact of donor contributions in these categories.

While the existing swine pens have served us well over the years, the need for new pens is evident,” said Jessica Klinkhammer, Swine Barn Superintendent. “We need new pens for safety reasons for both the exhibitors and the animals. Additionally, the new pens are much more user-friendly for the exhibitors, especially our youth.”

A variety of donor levels and recognition opportunities are available through the campaign, making it easy for individuals, families, businesses, and organizations to participate. Donors may also choose to spread pledge payments over two years, offering flexibility for those who wish to contribute over time. All donations are tax-deductible.
