The State Fair is currently hiring for the following:

Marketing/Events Internship
This position will involve assisting the Assistant Manager and State Fair staff with State Fair, other fairground events and event preparation. Duties include updating event websites, making event posters, special event management, posting on fair social media sites and assisting with event ticketing. Additionally, applicant will help with day to day event preparation, answering phones and assisting customers. Hours vary, but 40 hours per week can be offered.       
Qualifications:
Applicant must be a full-time student at a college, university or technical institute at the time they apply. By the start of the internship, the applicant should have at least a sophomore standing or currently be enrolled at a technical institute and have completed one year (nine months). 
Preference will be given to South Dakota residents and students of South Dakota institutions.

Applicant must have good communication and customer service skills. Ability to multi-task is a plus. Strong people skills are a must. Digital, web and social media skills are necessary. Experience in Content Management Systems is a plus, training will be provided. Basic Microsoft Office skills are necessary. Design skills and experience in Photoshop are preferred, but not necessary. Preference will be given to those who can be at the 2022 State Fair, Wednesday, August 31 through Monday, September 5 Coursework in communications, event planning, advertising and/or public relations is preferred.

Building Maintenance Specialist

The SD State Fair is seeking a full-time building maintenance specialist. Duties include general maintenance and repairs of State Fair facilities and equipment, as well as assist with preparation of grounds and facilities for special events, including set-ups and teardowns. Applicants are required to have received technical training in one of the following areas: carpentry, electrical, plumbing, or heating and air conditioning.

Pay rate is $20.99 to $24.79, depending on skills and experience. Excellent benefits include:

Horticulture Building Superintendent
Seasonal employment, minimal hours January through April with more hours May-July.  Hours increase August through fair. $12.32/hr. Manage and oversee Horticulture Building during the SD State Fair to ensure fair-time activities and responsibilities are well-planned and implemented. This includes managing competitive entries/exhibits, securing judges, assisting vendors, establishing a schedule, arranging some special events, and more. Crew Leader - Seasonal
Be a part of a time-honored tradition and be instrumental in the success of the annual State Fair.  The SD State Fair is hiring a crew leader for May-November.  Will supervise and work with inmates doing building and ground maintenance.  Must have a valid driver’s license.  Duties include general maintenance of all types.  Background check conducted.  Will be trained.
