Miss SD State Fair Scholarship Competition

Reigning Miss SD State Fair Annie Woodmansey

Annie Woodmansey is an elementary music teacher in the Mitchell School District at Gertie Belle Rogers Elementary school.  In addition, she is the Co-Director for the Mitchell Middle School middle school and the Pit Director for the Mitchell High School “Friend De Coup” showchoir.  One of her most exciting jobs is being the South Dakota 4-H Performing Arts Troupe Music Director.

She grew up in Pierre, SD where she participated in many musical ensembles and took on many leadership roles before attending NSU in Aberdeen, SD.  Throughout her college experience, Annie has been heavily involved in the fine arts department as first chair flute in the symphonic band, concert band, chamber choir, concert choir, marching wolves, Northern opera, and numerous Northern State theatre productions.

Annie has competed at Miss South Dakota for the past three years. Throughout her pageant experiences, Annie has won multiple talent preliminary awards, lifestyle and fitness preliminary awards, Jan King Community Service Scholarship, and Miss Congeniality at multiple local pageants.  She has won three local titles: Miss Sully County Fair, Miss Once Upon a Festival and Miss Rolling Plains.

At Miss South Dakota 2017, Annie won Most Talented Non-Finalist and Miss Congeniality.  The summer of Miss South Dakota 2018, Annie made it as a semi-finalist in the Top 8.  This past summer at Miss South Dakota 2019, Annie was a double preliminary winner winning talent on Thursday night with her flute piece playing “Concertino” by Cecile Chaminade and On-Stage Interview Friday night; this was a live face to face interview with a panel on stage.  Annie took home the honor of First Runner up.

Through this experience, Annie has become an ambassador for Children's Miracle Network.  She currently and continuously is raising money for Children's Miracle Network.  She has raised over $2000 in her pageant career for CMN.  Annie loves everything CMN has to stand for and wants everyone to remember that it is all For The Kids.

In addition, her social impact initiative is "Fine Arts for All Hearts", which is focused around the advocation of fine arts in our school, the importance of them and she offers easy access to the fine arts; by providing fine arts for those who may not have the opportunity to experience having music lessons, dance lessons, etc.  The fine arts have always been an important part in Annie’s life, and she wants to make sure others have the same experience. The fine arts contains no barriers of race, religion or socioeconomic status; unification is vital in the school districts and the fine arts are capable of connecting all of us together.

Annie also enjoys dancing, choreographing, painting and writing.  One of her favorite past time activities is going to her local coffee shop to order an iced tea and finding a quiet table to read and write poetry.

Annie is very excited to be representing such an iconic staple of South Dakota at Miss South Dakota 2020!
