Rodney Yost Horsemanship Demonstration

South of Hippodrome

Rodney Yost is a 4th generation South Dakota rancher who has been involved with the ranching and horse customs his entire life. He's been horseback since he was a baby in diapers on his family's ranch, started training ponies at the age of 10, and trained his first horse at the age of 13. Since then, he has become one of the top horse trainers and clinicians in South Dakota and throughout the Midwest. Over the past few years, Rodney has instructed many horsemanship clinics and demonstrations for all ages and riding levels. His unique training style and sense of humor have made him a sought after horsemanship clinician throughout the United States and Canada. He is the first and only 5-time champion of the Crosswinds Ranch Colt Training Challenge that is held at Michigan State University every Spring, and has won multiple Ranch Horse Colt Futurity competitions. He has become known for creating a relationship with his horses to produce extremely supple, well-mannered, and responsive horses that are capable of many disciplines.

Cowboy Mounted Shooting

North Arena

Cowboy Mounted Shooting is the fastest growing equestrian sport in the nation. Mounted contestants compete in this fast action timed event using two .45 caliber single action revolvers each loaded with five rounds of specially prepared blank ammunition. The Cowboy Mounted Shooting Association "C.M.S.A." has a variety of levels of competition for everyone, ranging from novice levels to the seasoned professional.

SD Timed Event Championship

North Arena
Open to youth ages 14-19

The area's elite youth rodeo contestants will compete in six timed events, including tie-down calf roping, barrel racing, team roping, goat tying, breakaway roping and steer wrestling.  Any rodeo youth from across the country, ages 14-19, are eligible to compete for the title but entries are limited.  Entry forms can be found at www.sdtimedeventchampionship.webs.com.

The overall winner not only receives the coveted title of SD Timed Event Champion but the use of a horse trailer sponsored in part by Iverson Featherlite.  Event winners receive trophy saddles.

Trophies awarded at 4 pm to 1st-3rd place in People’s Choice Competition

Classic car show participants are invited to be part of the classic car show parade that will go down Farm Bureau Ave. on 3rd Street!  The parade is at 10 am and will follow the following route: Cotton King Ave. to 4th St. to Livestock Ave. to 3rd St. to Cotton King Ave. and back to the AARP Centennial Stage!

Kids' Fish Catch

Bring the kids down for some fish catching fun! Kids will be split up into four age divisions. When given the go-ahead, kids jump into a pond filled with trout to try their hand at catching one by hand! Kids who catch a tagged trout will receive a prize!
