It takes a big team to make sure the State Fair goes off without a hitch.

We are now hiring for the following seasonal positions:

South Dakota State Fair: Head Gardener

Seasonal employment: Start in mid-April through September. $12/hr with approximately 25 hours a week (generally 7am-12pm, but flexible). Responsible for numerous gardening duties, general maintenance and care of flower beds and planters including: soil cultivation, bed preparation, planting, weeding, pruning and watering.  Must have general knowledge of gardening and physically capable of bending, lifting, and working in spring and summer weather conditions. South Dakota State Fair: Gardener Attendant

The SD State Fair is seeking an individual to assist with prepping flower beds and overall care of flower beds including planting, weeding and watering. Hours will be 7am-12pm, with occasional extended hours. Start early May through August, with some flexibility on start and end date. South Dakota State Fair: Crew Leaders

Seasonal employment April – November, $12/hr with 40 plus hours/week. Will supervise and work with a crew of male inmates doing building and ground maintenance.  Must have a valid driver’s license. CDL preferred but not required. Duties include general maintenance of all types.  Knowledge of farm or construction background helpful.  Possibility of working some evenings and weekends.  Background check required.  Will train.  To apply, stop by State Fair Office or for questions, call 605-353-7340.


South Dakota State Fair: Grandstand Ticket Superintendent

Seasonal employment mid May-early September, $12/hr, hours will vary but hours increase mid August through fair. Manage and oversee grandstand ticketing office for grandstand ticket sales.  This includes learning State Fair ticketing sales program, ticket sales preparation, assist in hiring and scheduling ticket office sales crew and reconciling of payments to reports.  General computer skills necessary.  Excellent customer service skills and ability to communicate effectively are a must.
