Volek wins U-Fit-It Contest

HURON, SD--- Dustin Volek of Highmore, SD was named the Grand Champion U-Fit-It Showman at the 2007 South Dakota State Fair in Huron, SD.  Volek won the coveted title after first competing and winning the showmanship title for the Maine-Anjou breed. Two participants from each breed association, FFA and 4-H are selected to compete in the contest with a total of 24 finalists vying for the prestigious title. The U-Fit-It is a cattle fitting and showmanship contest that was started in 1978. Contestants have 30 minutes to fit their animal before the showmanship portion of the contest begins. Volek won a belt buckle, fitting chute, and scholarship from Hubbard Milling of Watertown, SD, Sullivan Supply of Dunlap, IA and the Richard Sawyer Family of Howard, SD. Volek is the son of Keith and Janice Volek of Highmore. Judging this year’s event was Jerome Settles of Hoskins, NE and Kyla Nesime, a past winner from Kansas City, MO.
