| What is the SD's Largest Classroom? |
In 2004, the SD State Fair added an educational program that complimented the school curriculums. The SD's Largest Classroom was created around the notion that programs brought in for the two-day event would focus on math, science, reading and/or history. Major backers of the program are South Dakota superintendents.
During their field trip, students are able to tour a variety of educational "learning centers." These learning centers teach students about science, agriculture, technology and much more! The most exciting part is that kids have the opportunity to learn hands-on and see exhibits that may not always be available to individual school districts with limited budgets. Specific programs that will be part of the "learning centers" offer follow-up materials for teachers to incoporate into their everyday cirriculums. |
| SD's Largest Classroom Tidbits |
* Schools in attendance will be provided with a SD State Fair Ambassador to guide them
around the fairgrounds and to their various activities.
* Schools will be put on a schedule to follow, with the allowance of free time for the teachers
to use however they see fit.

The education program is FREE to students, teachers and chaperones.
* Parking is FREE.
* SD's Largest Classroom activities begin around 9:30 and end around 2:30 or so.
* To help defray costs to traveling schools, in the past Cenex has sponsored $20 gas
coupons. It is being worked out to have these available once again.
* Plans are also in the works to have a local grocery store sponsor a free lunch during the
SD's Largest Classroom. Keep checking back for more developments.
* For those who register for the 2008 SD's Largest Classroom, a packet will be sent out
containing the following: Schedule, Cenex gas coupon (if applicable), welcome letter, map,
directions on how to print off an informational booklet, learner's license and evaluation form.
* At the Fair, students will receive resource booklets that will include exercises and
information relating to the programs they have seen at the Fair. Each of the educational
programs will contribute to this booklet so the students can continue their learning
experience back in the classroom. |
