Camping

The State Fairgrounds hosts the largest campground in the state, with over 1250 sites. All campsites on the grounds have electricity. There are limited sewer and water hook-ups. Showers and restrooms are located in all campgrounds.

State Fair Camping

* Please let the State Fair Office know if your camper has changed in size as it may effect your campsite.

Reservation forms have been sent out to those who camped with us at the 2009 SD State Fair. Those forms are due back to the State Fair Office by Monday, March 15th. Following the March 15th deadline, campers will begin to be placed and shuffled around.

If your name is on the waiting list, you’ll receive a letter prior to February 1st. The letter simply states to let us know if you are no longer interested in a campsite or if your camper needs have changed.

Note: If you are a returning camper and wish to move to a different campsite or purchase an additional site, you must pay for your current campsite while a possible move/addition is researched. Doing this will secure your current campsite. If you fail to pay for your current campsite by the deadline, you will lose your current site.

If you did not camp with us last year and wish to this year, please fill out a reservation form and send it into the State Fair Office or call the Office at (605) 353-7340. By doing this, you will be getting your name on the waiting list and will find out what your options are.

Last year, all of our electrical sites were sold out. We are encouraging those who wish to camp with us to consider our reserved self-contained campsites that are available for a full seven nights. Once again this year for $142.00 (includes 4 gate admission wristbands), we will be offering a full week of off grounds, self contained (need generator or camper battery) or tent camping, at our Gate H area, which is across the street from the 4-H Gate 8. This area has no shower/restroom on site; you would use the Pasque Park shower/restroom. Also, we are offering the same accommodations at Gate 13 which is located across the street from the west side of the race track (where the stock trailers are parked) EXCEPT there is a shower/restroom facility on site, same $142.00 rate.

Although these sites are located off of the main fairgrounds, there are many benefits to camping in Gate H or 13. We have had great response to these areas as people think the sites are very spacious and much quieter than the campsites on the main grounds. Plus, by camping at Gate H or 13, you are one step closer to getting on the main grounds because your name will be entered into the master camping database, a perk that people that do not camp with us don’t have. Once you’re on the list, you have increased chances of getting a site in the main camping area.

Self-contained and tent nightly camping is available at Gate 13 for $20.00 per night. Reservations are not needed for this. Payment for your stay will be taken upon your arrival at Gate 13.

Year-Round Camping

  • $20.00/night - Full hook-ups (water, sewer, electricity)
  • $17.00/night - Electricity
  • Pay at the drop boxes in the campgrounds or at the SD State Fairgrounds office, M-F, 8-5.
